EARTHQUAKES
An earthquake (also known as a quake, tremor, or temblor) is the shaking of theEarth's surface caused by a rapid release of energy in the Earth's lithosphere, producing seismic waves. Earthquakes can range in size from those so little thatthey are hardly felt to those powerful enough to drive things and people into the air and wreak havoc on entire cities.
LANDSLIDES
A mass of rock, rubble, or dirt down a slope is characterized as a landslide. Landslides are a sort of "mass wasting," which refers to any down-slope movement of soil and rock caused by gravity. The phrase "landslide" refers to five different types of slope movement: falls, topples, slides, spreads, and flows. These are further classified based on geologic material (bedrock, debris, or earth). Common landslide types include debris flows (also known as mudflows ormudslides) and rockfalls.
