What to Do Before, During and After a Typhoon?

Before a Typhoon:

  • Build an emergency kit and make a family emergency plan.

  • Know your surroundings.

  • Learn community hurricane evacuation routes and how to find higher ground.

  • Make plans to secure your property.

During a Typhoon:

  • Listen to the radio or TV for information and keep your weather radio handy.

  • Secure your home, close storm shutters and secure outdoor objects or bring them indoors.

  • Stay indoors during the hurricane and away from windows and glass doors.

  • Evacuate if needed.

After a Typhoon:

  • Wash your hands with soap and water if you have been in floodwater. If you don’t have soap or water, use alcohol-based wipes or sanitizer.

  • Do not enter a damaged building until local authorities determine it is safe.

  • Watch out for fallen power lines that may be hanging overhead.

  • Throw away food that may have come in contact with flood or storm water.
